When I was a young girl, I was told by the strong men and women in my family I could do and be whatever I wanted to be when I grew up.  I was given a lot of support to get a strong education, always be involved in my community, exel at school activities, and work hard to achieve what I wanted.  However, even with all that support, I still faced tough challenges:

In second grade I was told that I was "stupid" by my own classmate because I was a minority.

In junior high school, I was overlooked for scholastic activities and opportunities to represent my school despite the fact that I had great grades and was my class Vice President.

In High School I was discouraged by my guidance counselor to not apply to the college of my dreams because they didnt think I was smart enough to be accepted despite my high grade point average.

Despite these, and other challenges I faced as a young girl, it was other adults and family that had confidence in me and encouraged me to still be Strong, Smart and Bold.

Young girls need your help!  Reflect on your life stories?  How often, as a young girl were you faced with adversity, oppression, and challenges that life brings us?  How often have your daughter/s, or young female family members and friends faced these challenges? 

Young Girls Need Your Help!  Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.  Our innovative programs help girls ages 6 to 18 confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential, and help prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives. 

Help a girl have a voice, please help sponsor Girls Incorporated by providing a donation of any amount.  My goal is to raise $5000 to Girls Incorporated of Greater Philadelphia and South New Jersey.
